BUFFALO SCREAMS — 2nd Annual Film Festival Coming!

BUFFALO SCREAMS — 2nd Annual Film Festival Coming!

Greetings, readers.  I came home to a very pleasant email from Slimeguy Greg Lamberson today after work.  Here’s what Greg had to say:

Buffalo, New York – The 2nd Annual Buffalo Screams Horror Film Festival is calling for entries for its 2011 edition. Based on the success of the inaugural event, co-founders Gregory Lamberson and Emil J. Novak have expanded the programming from four nights to five: the festival will run in late October, with dates to be announced. The deadline for submissions is September 15th, 2011.

“We’ve replaced our trailer competition with Student and Medium Length film categories,” says Lamberson (SLIME CITY MASSACRE). “We’ve also added Student, Short, and Medium Length categories to our screenplay competition. Our focus will always be on horror, but we’ve retained our More Than Horror categories, which accommodate other genres, such as Thriller, Science Fiction, Fantasy, Western, Action and Crime Drama… the cool stuff.”

Some of the winners at last year’s festival included the features EL MONSTRO DEL MAR! and TRUE NATURE, the horror short THE FAMILIAR, the More Than Horror science fiction feature TRIPTOSANE, the More Than Horror western short DAMN YOUR EYES, and the Western New York horror short DAVIS.

“We like to mix things up,” says Novak, currently wrapping post production on the zombie anthology DECAYED. “Last year we gave out awards in several additional categories not specified on our submission form, like Best Actor and Actress, Cinematography, Editing, and so on, and we plan to do the same thing this year. Buffalo Screams is about celebrating independent horror from New York State and all over the world.”

25 year old Sam Qualiana, who received a “Filmmaker to Watch” award for his short crime drama NO ROAD OUT last year, is currently shooting his first horror feature, SNOW SHARK: ANCIENT SNOW BEAST.

“We were very pleased with last year’s festival, both from a programming stand, and from a networking point of view,” says Novak. “We had half a dozen filmmakers from out of state – and from out of the country! – join us, and a lot of local filmmakers met each other for the first time, which added to the friendly atmosphere.”

As you will recall, readers, I covered the first annual Buffalo Screams last year here at the Blood Sprayer.  It was a phenomenal event, where I saw some of the best films I saw in 2010 and made some incredible friendships and community connections.  Because of Buffalo Screams, I got to be a part of SNOW SHARK: ANCIENT SNOW BEAST, and will be on set during the filming of John Renna’s THE WRONG GUY.  I can’t stress this enough, Buffalo Screams was one of the highest high points of 2010 for me, and I’d be willing to bet Buffalo Screams 2.0 will be one of the highest high points of 2011 for me.  By all means, if you’re a filmmaker, submit a film to Buffalo Screams.  You won’t regret it.

  1. Why does Greg write in the 3rd person, like he’s a press release or something?

  2. I am looking at my lanyard from last year… I need one that says 2011…
