Time for a special edition of the Weekly Bloodlines. One of my favorite genre labels, Magnet Releasing dropped a handful of new trailers for all of their summer releases, and I wanted to get them up here right away while I continue to put together a traditional Bloodlines column for tomorrow.
First up is the official red band trailer for V/H/S/2. Part 2 will be available on iTunes and on demand on June6th, and a handful of select lucky theaters July 12th.
Synopsis: Inside a darkened house looms a column of TVs littered with VHS tapes, a pagan shrine to forgotten analog gods. The screens crackle and pop endlessly with monochrome vistas of static—white noise permeating the brain and fogging concentration. But you must fight the urge to relax: this is no mere movie night. Those obsolete spools contain more than just magnetic tape. They are imprinted with the very soul of evil.
From the demented minds that brought you last year’s V/H/S comes V/H/S/2, an all-new anthology of dread, madness, and gore. This follow-up ventures even further down the demented path blazed by its predecessor, discovering new and terrifying territory in the genre. This is modern horror at its most inventive, shrewdly subverting our expectations about viral videos in ways that are just as satisfying as they are sadistic. The result is the rarest of all tapes—a second generation with no loss of quality.
Next is the red band trailer to the upcoming viking flick Hammer of the Gods, due out on iTunes and on demand May 30th as well as theatrically July 5th.
Set in Viking Britain in 871 AD, Hammer of the Gods is a visceral, intense tale set in a world whose only language is violence. A young Viking warrior, Steinar (Charlie Bewley), is sent by his father the king on a quest to find his estranged brother, who was banished from the kingdom many years before. Steinar’s epic journey across terrifyingly hostile territory gradually sees him emerge as the man his father wants him to be – the ruthless and unforgiving successor to his throne.
Magnet concludes their trifecta of trailer releases with the sci-fi thriller Europa Report, due on Demand and on iTunes June 27th and theatrically August 2nd.
Europa Report follows a contemporary mission to Jupiter’s moon Europa to investigate the possible existence of alien life within our solar system. When unmanned probes suggest that a hidden ocean could exist underneath Europa’s icy surface and may contain single-celled life, Europa Ventures, a privately funded space exploration company, sends six of the best astronauts from around the world to confirm the data and explore the revolutionary discoveries that may lie in the Europan ocean. After a near-catastrophic technical failure that leads to loss of communication with Earth and the tragic death of a crewmember, the surviving astronauts must overcome the psychological and physical toll of deep space travel, and survive a discovery on Europa more profound than they had ever imagined.
That is gonna do it for this installation of Bloodlines. Come back tomorrow for another edition that will be full of horror projects that we are keeping our eyes on!
