Weekly Bloodlines for May 8th

On June 4th, Anchor Bay Entertainment releases Charlie Zone on Blu-ray™ and DVD. Winner of four major awards at the 2011 Atlantic Film Festival, the film stars Amanda Crew (Sex Drive, Charlie St. Cloud, The Haunting in Connecticut), Glen Gould (“Cashing In,” “Mohawk Girls”) and Mpho Koaho (Saw III, Four Brothers, Blindness).

From Myriad Pictures, Charlie Zone is a twisting dramatic thriller set against the drug-ravaged streets of one of Canada’s roughest neighborhoods. Avery Paul, a disgraced boxer and ex-convict, is hired to abduct a runaway from a crack house in the city’s notorious “Charlie Zone,” and return her safely to her family. But nothing goes quite as planned and nothing is quite what it seems. What follows is a harrowing ride through the underbelly of a seemingly picture-postcard Canadian city, as two lost people attempt to face the darkness—in their world and themselves—and hopefully find redemption.

Charlie Zone is a compelling and multi-dimensional portrait of a place, its people, and their struggle to survive.

THE RAMBLER

Remember midnight movies from the 1970s? Those after-hour slices of cult celluloid that stunned audiences with their mash-up of genres, innovative narratives and psychedelic imagery? Get ready to relive those hallucinogenic halcyon days again, as Anchor Bay Films and AKA Pictures Present An XYZ Films / Brooklyn Reptyle Films Production of The Rambler!

Fresh from sold-out screenings at this year’s Sundance and SXSW Festivals, Anchor Bay Films announces the June 25th Blu-ray™ and DVD release of the groundbreaking indie-short turned feature film starring Dermot Mulroney (Stoker, The Grey), Lindsay Pulsipher (“True Blood,” “Justified”) and Natasha Lyonne (American Pie, American Reunion, But I’m A Cheerleader). Written and directed by Calvin Lee Reeder,

In the film, a stranger known only as “the Rambler” (Mulroney) is just released from prison and anxious to build a new life for himself. With the promise of a job and some stability from his brother, the Rambler embarks on a cross-country journey to what hopefully is a new start.

Like Odysseus and other travelers on the road-to-wisdom before him, the Rambler – armed only with his cowboy hat, shades, a guitar and traveling sack — will encounter all manner of obstacles and dangers on his road to redemption, including a scientist with a dream-recording (onto VHS!) machine, a cab driver with an unnatural love of the original Frankenstein film, “mummies” in the back of trucks and, oh — did I mention exploding heads?

ANCHOR BAY ENTERTAINMENT AND RADiUS-TWC PRESENT    6 SOULS ON BLU-RAY™ AND DVD

Anchor Bay Entertainment and RADiUS- TWC announced today the Blu-ray™ and DVD release of the gripping psychological thriller, 6 Souls. From the producers of The Ring, 6 Souls stars multiple-Oscar® nominee and Golden Globe® Award winner Julianne Moore (HBO’s Game Change, Magnolia), and Golden Globe® Award winners Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Showtime’s “The Tudors,” Bend It Like Beckham) and Frances Conroy (HBO’s “Six Feet Under,” The Aviator). Written by Michael Cooney (Identity) and co-directed by Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein (Storm), 6 Souls heads to retail on July 2, 2013 for Blu-ray and DVD.

After the death of her husband, forensic psychiatrist Dr. Cara Harding’s (Julianne Mooore) faith in God has been shaken, but not her belief in science. In an attempt to open her up to accepting unexplainable psychiatric theories, her father introduces her to Adam (Jonathan Rhys Meyers), a patient with multiple personalities, who takes on some of the physical characteristics of his other personalities. Cara quickly discovers that Adam’s personalities are murder victims, and the more she finds out about him and his past, the closer she and her loved ones are to becoming murder victims themselves.

“Moore is absolutely terrific as Cara Harding, maintaining a dedicated, delicate portrayal of the doctor’s internal debate even when confronted with the unexplainable,” said Ken Hanley of Fangoria. “Chills in the film range from the psychological to supernatural, brought about by seasoned performers who know how to sell a thrill,” added Jake Dee of ArrowInTheHead.com. “Rhys Meyers alters transition with a creepy, violent snap back of the neck before coming to with complete clarity as a new soul.”

6 Souls also stars Jeffrey DeMunn (Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile), Nathan Corddry (The Ugly Truth, The Invention of Lying), Brooklynn Proulx (Brokeback Mountain), and Brian Anthony Wilson (Law Abiding Citizen, Limitless).

Matt has been a fan of horror films since his first trip to the video store when he was transfixed by classic vhs cover art. Now he primarily enjoys films from the grindhouse era of the 70's and 80's, but holds a soft spot in in his heart for low budget flicks.
