PRESS RELEASE – Official Trailer For THE HOSPITAL Drops
An official trailer for Deviant Pictures’ highly anticipated horror film THE HOSPITAL, featuring John Dugan (THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE), Jim O’Rear (THE DEAD MATTER), Daniel Emery Taylor (RETURN OF THE SWAMP THING), Scott Tepperman (GHOST HUNTERS INTERNATIONAL), April Burril (CHAINSAW SALLY), and Jason Crowe (DEAD MOON RISING), has been unleashed online.
Filmed in actual haunted locations, THE HOSPITAL mixes themes from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Hostel, Saw, and Paranormal Activity to bring to the screen what Tony Todd (CANDYMAN) says is, “the sickest shit since Rosemary’s Baby.”
The story is this… Old St. Leopold’s Hospital has many urban legends surrounding it, but the residents of Bridgeport all agree on one thing: tortured souls roam its abandoned halls. The mystery proves too much for a pretty young student who decides to investigate for her senior class project. Unfortunately, she does not find ghosts. She, instead, finds Stanley… serial rapist, murderer, and psychopath. As the young girl becomes Stanley’s new pet, a team of young investigators descend on the hospital to “hunt some ghosts.” Stanley sees nothing but fun and games in his future. But, what Stanley does not know is that the hospital truly is haunted and the restless spirits there are not happy with what he has been doing.
A special test screening of THE HOSPITAL will be held on March 9th at the Dead Winter Horror Convention, with stars from the film in attendance, followed by the international premiere of the film in Dortmund, Germany, on March 23rd, as part of the Movie Days/Dark Zone celebration.
Next up is the official trailer announcing the DVD and Blu-ray release of the latest from Magnet Releasing, Sushi Girl! Synopsis: Fish has spent six years in jail. Six years alone. Six years keeping his mouth shut about the robbery, about the other men involved. The night he is released, the four men he protected with silence celebrate his freedom with a congratulatory dinner. The meal is a lavish array of sushi, served off the naked body of a beautiful young woman. The sushi girl seems cationic, trained to ignore everything in the room, even if things become dangerous. Sure enough, the four unwieldy thieves can’t help but open old wounds in an attempt to find their missing loot. Sushi Girl also features an all star cast including Tony Todd, Mark Hamill, Sonny Chiba, and Jeff Fahey amongst others! Look for Sushi Girl on DVD and Blu-ray February 19th!
The debut poster for the upcoming thriller The Silence was also released. The Silence begins 23 years ago on a hot summer day, when a young girl named Pia is brutally murdered in a field of wheat. Now, on the exact same date in the present, 13-year-old Sinikka is missing, her bicycle abandoned in the same spot. As Krischan, the retired investigator of the unresolved case, and his younger colleague David struggle to solve the mystery of these parallel crimes, Sinikka’s distraught parents are trapped in an agonizing period of waiting and uncertainty. Meanwhile, their daughter’s fate rips open old wounds in the heart of Pia’s mother, who is visited by an unexpected guest with an eerie connection to her daughter. The unrelenting summer heat lies over the quaint family homes like a bell jar and behind closed doors, worlds begin to fall apart. Look for The Silence in select theaters March 8th!
Magnet Releasing takes US Rights to EUROPA REPORT
New York, NY– February 5, 2013 – The Wagner/Cuban Company’s Magnet Releasing, genre arm of Magnolia Pictures, announced today that they’ve acquired US rights to EUROPA REPORT, a groundbreaking science fiction film starring Sharlto Copley (District 9), about the exploration of Jupiter’s moon, Europa.
EUROPA REPORT marks Copley’s first return to science fiction since the 2009 blockbuster District 9, as well as the English language debut of director Sebastián Cordero, who once again worked with two longtime collaborators, Academy Award winning Production Designer Eugenio Caballero (Pan’s Labyrinth, The Impossible) and Director of Photography Enrique Chediak (127 Hours). The film was written by Philip Gelatt and produced by Wayfare Entertainment’s Ben Browning. Executive Producers were Wayfare’s Michael Maher and Jeremy Kipp Walker. The film features music by Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead). The film was financed by Wayfare Entertainment and China’s Sil Metropole.
A unique blend of documentary, alternative history and science fiction thriller, EUROPA REPORT follows a contemporary mission to Jupiter’s moon Europa, to investigate the possible existence of alien life within our solar system. Developed in close collaboration with NASA, JPL, SpaceX and other leaders in the scientific community, the film imagines the next step in manned space exploration and is based on recent scientific discoveries and theories.
“EUROPA REPORT is an exceptionally smart, thrilling film that will be a revelation for space enthusiasts and science fiction fans alike,” said Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles. “Its nuanced attention to scientific detail lends it an exciting quality that elevates it above the usual genre fare.”
“Sebastián has made a unique and challenging film that looks and feels epic despite being contained, and we’re confident has the potential to get into the zeitgeist. We also think it is a great example of the genre-bending films that Magnolia has had such success with, and we look forward to working with them again” said Browning.
Finally, is the trailer debut of the Austrailian suspense thriller Crawl! Crawl will be released on DVD and digital download on February 26th from the Bloody Disgusting Selects film branch. I will add that the trailer looks like it could be a good one!
