New Guillermo del Toro Novel Giveaway!!!!

New Guillermo del Toro Novel Giveaway!!!!

I have awesome news for all you readers out there!

Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan have a new book releasing pretty soon, and we were lucky enough to receive some advance copies. Since I certainly don’t need more than one copy, we’re giving the extras away to our readers!

You may remember I posted a review about the first novel in the series, The Strain. This new novel, The Fall, follows directly after and will be the second in a trilogy, so you can expect one more book to come. If you didn’t read the review, check it out, but as a brief introduction, the novel is about vampires. I don’t mean the boring overdramatized vampires that are omnipresent in Hollywood nowadays, but brutal, old-fashioned, terrifying vampires who would sooner drink you dry than talk to you. I highly recommend picking up The Strain if you’re a fan of the vampire genre.

Anyways, the contest is simple! Make a comment in this post, letting us at the Blood Sprayer know what new del Toro movie you are most excited for, and more importantly, why you’re excited for it. His upcoming projects are as follows:

At the Mountains of Madness

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark

The Haunted Mansion

I should say that I am incredibly disappointed that he will not be doing The Hobbit, and I feel as though I need to clarify that The Haunted Mansion will not be a stupid Eddie Murphy movie, but will actually be scary, despite it being based on the Disney ride. Don’t roll your eyes at me, the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie was awesome, and that was a Disney ride too.

The contest will run for a week, and will end on the 21st when the book officially releases. Please remember to include your email address in your comment. Let the opinion sharing, and nerding out begin!!

Good luck to everyone!

  1. Okay, this is one time I’m quite upset that I am actually on staff at The Blood Sprayer. I’d so love to get my hands on a copy of that. Damn.

  2. Although not mentioned in the list, I would be ecstatic to see him follow through with the film adaptation of David Moody’s HATER because I love the series and I think it has potential to be a suspenseful, truly scary horror film in the hands of a master like Guillermo Del Toro.

If I had to chose a project mentioned above I would say At The Mountains of Madness for the same reasons. Guillermo Del Toro would be the best person to bring Lovecraft’s mythical world to life and hopefully revamp our beloved genre, which really has been hit or miss as of late.

  3. Amazing contest. The Strain was one of my favourite books of the past year, and I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy of The Fall.

I am most excited by the prospect of Frankenstein, as it is a timeless story, and the original is one of my absolute favourite films of all-time. The fact that del Toro is one of the best working today gives me faith that he would be one of the few people who wouldn’t fuck it up royally.

  4. OKay…I’m officially over the rainbow because this is a contest I can honestly say I’m desperate to win. Point blank: del Toro is one of the most incredible artists to come out of the 20th century. Everything he has a hand in is a marvel and I can’t wait to see what dazzling landscapes he creates next.

As a writer his genius is unprecedented, especially coming from the perspective of someone who’s film making is just as magnificent.

That being said, I’m having a hard time actually deciding what film I’m most excited to see from this emperor among paupers of film. Quite frankly, any literature with a classical rendering is going to provide the perfect palette for del Toro’s distinctly fantastic style of direction and production.

If I had to choose, I’d say either Frankenstein or Jekyll and Hyde. Let’s be real, Mary Shelley and Guillermo del Toro is a match made in Heaven. However, the sheer idea of a del Toro laden Jekyll and Hyde sends shivers up my spine. But, I must say. I’m keenly interested in At The Mountains Of Madness as a concept. It gives the impression of a truly magnanimous affair. Anything touched with the freak and fantasy of H.P. Lovecraft is sure to be powerfully mind blowing. So, what should it be: should I lean towards the classical and go with either Shelley or Robert Louis Stevenson? Or should I tease my senses with the phantasmagoria of Lovecraft?

What the hell! Let’s go with dynamic collaboration of del Toro and Lovecraft and be gladly shredded to pieces by the sheer madness of it all!!!

  5. i am so looking forward to dr. jekyl and mr. hyde it is such a clasic story about basic humanity an d del toro always does a amazing job with a storyline

  6. Considering Frankenstein is my favorite horror character/icon of all time and that I can never seem to get enough of that story done in as many ways possible (Splice), I have to say that one.

  7. What can I say, I am excited about the notion of a truly Haunted Mansion movie. I am a bit of a Disney purist, and I am anxious to see what greatness he brings to this franchise.

  8. Why Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde of course!

The classic tale about the monsters who await inside all of us, the dark passenger we have. How we don’t have control sometimes over the monster and we can no longer hide it.

I mean, the original book was more about opiate use and the monster that addiction brings but we can apply in several forms.

The movie will be great in the hands of that man, for his vision is deep and horrific.

  9. Great contest! I am most excited about the Del Toro / Lovecraft combo because COME ON, that has immense potential to be epic. But I am also excited about the possibilities for The Haunted Mansion, as it is my favorite Disney ride, and I’m sure he can do great things with it. So much fun to be had!

  10. I’m most excited about the Haunted Mansion because I’ve been a Disney freak since my youth!

  11. I read the first book at it was pretty solid. Looking forward to this one.

Kinda wanna see The Haunted Mansion. It might have the Del Toro touch to it for a kids film.

  12. I am Extremely disappointed about the Hobbit..I was so excited when I first heard that Del Toro was going to direct. I’ve loved every one of his movies and for him to do the Hobbit would have been a masterpiece. But oh well…I’m interested in his take on Frankenstein..I’ve never been too much of a fan of the Frankenstein movies and am interested in seeing if Del Toro can change my mind. I love his work!! Can’t wait to read his books!!

  13. I would love to see his take on Frankenstein. I bet it will be really good.

  14. Frakenstein. Del Toro can really bring this monster back to life. Since the Universal days of cinema, direction and production of quality Frakenstein films has fallen to the wayside when trying to follow the story. It is in my hopes, that with his unprecedented prowess, that he can revive this monster and make him live once again!

  15. I’m the most excited about At the Mountains of Madness because I’m curious how he will bring this H.P. Lovecraft novella alive? It sounds amazing, and can’t wait to see it!

  16. ok this contest is now closed!!!

  17. At the Mountains of Madness has me quivering squamishly with unnameable and eldritch anticipation over what nightmare Del Toro might drag mewling and gibbering from the silver screen to unleash upon me!

Shame the contest is over, I thought I might share anyway πŸ™‚
