What started out as one of gaming’s most beloved survival horror franchises, the Silent Hill series has slowly gone to shit ever since the game’s fourth installment. Today, Konami pledged to return the Silent Hill series to its roots with the 2011 release of Silent Hill 8- coming to the XBOX 360 and PS3.
Here’s Konami’s official set-up for the eighth installment:
The new game begins after a prison transport vehicle careens off the road, leaving lone inmate Murphy Pendleton stranded in Silent Hill. As Pendleton takes in his new surroundings, users will encounter mind-bending puzzles and horrific creatures and otherworld terrors. Armed only with the everyday objects they can find – from wooden chairs to glass bottles – to fend off their enemies, fight or flight responses are left to the player as they unravel a dark, thought-provoking storyline which will appeal to fans of the early, classic Silent Hill series.
The vacancy left open by the departure of Silent Hill’s original score composer, Akira Yamaoka, will be filled by Daniel Licht, composer for ‘Hellraiser’ and the ‘Children of the Corn’ films, as well as Showtime’s ‘Dexter.’
Fingers crossed…but at this point, there are more bad entries than there are good. Check out the full press conference with a glimpse of the game below.
