Greetings, readers. I brought you a press release not too long ago detailing an upcoming Tromadance Conference, Tromadance being Troma’s independent-cinema-oriented answer to film festivals like Sundance and Cannes. So, a film festival, but with large-nosed men in bow-ties and women in fake-gore-soaked bikinis instead of dignified representatives of the film industry.
Anyways, it was brought to my attention that filmmaker Adam Rifkin will be speaking at this conference, having been responsible for all 11 episodes of Showtime’s recent series LOOK, based on Rifkin’s film of the same name, exploring American culture’s obsession with surveillance and the voyeuristic enjoyment of the intrusion into others’ privacy. Given the recent suicide of a Rutger’s student after his personal life was broadcast on to the internet as a prank and the constant broadcast of our lives via Facebook, Twitter, etc., I think this is an intensely relevant subject to each and every one of us, and Rifkin has handled it with a master’s touch.
As a reminder, the Tromadance Conference will take place on November 4th, 2010, in the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel Press Room at 3 pm. Seating is limited, so those wishing to attend should RSVP to Anne Koester, Troma’s Press Contact, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
