I'm the founder of The Blood Sprayer, as well as its head writer. I have an incredible wife and son who are my reason for living and dying. Film is a way of life for me and it seeps into every aspect of my life. My particular area of expertise is in exploitation/grindhouse stuff from the 70's and 80's. I'm also a sucker for a micro budget indie as evident with how much attention we give those companies on the site. Other than that, I'm the vocalist for The Highgears (www.thehighgears.com), and a die hard fan of Cleveland Browns football, Cleveland Cavs basketball, and Baltimore Orioles baseball.

The Graves (After Dark Films/Lionsgate)

The Graves (After Dark Films/Lionsgate)

Brian Pulido’s name is not unfamiliar to fans of horror culture. From his wildly successful Chaos! Comics (which includes his creations Evil Ernie and Lady Death, to name a few) to his now burgeoning film career, his name is synonymous with horror in several capacities.  With the release of his film “The Graves”, Pulido goes [...]

High on Fire-Snakes for the Divine (E1 Entertainment)

High on Fire-Snakes for the Divine (E1 Entertainment)

When it’s all said and done in the world of modern music, High on Fire will go down as one of those bands that didn’t get near the amount of exposure they deserved.  But if their latest album is any sort of indication, that well-earned notoriety may be just around the corner.  On their latest [...]

Kiss the Ring: We show our gratitude to the Godfather of Gore, Herschell Gordon Lewis-by Wes Allen

Kiss the Ring: We show our gratitude to the Godfather of Gore, Herschell Gordon Lewis-by Wes Allen

I reckon, it’s a safe assumption that if you are visiting our website, then you’re already aware of H.G. Lewis. He’s not only known as the Godfather of Gore, but has been heralded as a major influence on what was to be known as the “splatter film”. After getting his start in exploitation with notorious producer David F. Friedman’s (Ilsa: She-Wolf of the SS, Love Camp 7) nudie-cuties and juvenile delinquent films, the team sought another world of nastiness to exploit. Hence, the “Blood Trilogy” was born. Beginning with 1963′s “Blood Feast”, Lewis would hose his audiences down with blood, guts, and assault-like ad campaigns that would allow his films to go down in horror film history.

Bow to the King: Low Budget Picture’s founder Chris Seaver lays it on the line for us, sucka’-by Wes Allen

Bow to the King: Low Budget Picture’s founder Chris Seaver lays it on the line for us, sucka’-by Wes Allen

Chris Seaver and Low Budget Pictures have a very special place in my heart.  It extends beyond my personal friendship with him and the work we’ve done together (my band has written and recorded songs for a handful of his films and I had the honor of being in Deathbone).  First and foremost, I am [...]

Murder Loves Killers Too (Well Go USA/Radar Dog Productions)

Murder Loves Killers Too (Well Go USA/Radar Dog Productions)

Oh boy, did it take me awhile to decide whether or not I hated this movie. And you know what the bitch of it is? I still don’t know!  I mean, on one hand it has everything going for it:  Great title, great poster art, silly premise that could only lead to chaos.  But then [...]

Skanska Mord-The Last Supper (Small Stone Records)

Skanska Mord-The Last Supper (Small Stone Records)

Y0u’ll end up finding there is no shortage of love for the Swedes and all things Scandinavian on our website.  Whether it’s film or great music, they seem to have a knack for pleasing a lot of the cats that write for The Blood Sprayer.  Fortunately, there is no shortage of cool stuff that this [...]

Combat Shock (Troma Retro)

Combat Shock (Troma Retro)

After 25 years in existence, most grind house era films do not stand the test of time.  Fact is, they’re budgets and lack of acting ability make them out to be kind of silly and cartoonish. They become a caricature of their true intent.  Combat Shock is not one of those films, however. Director Buddy [...]

House of Broken Promises-Using the Useless (Small Stone Records)

House of Broken Promises-Using the Useless (Small Stone Records)

God, I love hearing a balls out heavy rock record.  There’s nothing quite like getting your ass kicked from the first riff.  House of Broken Promises do just that with Using the Useless and manage to add hooks to the songs that make them rock radio ready. Comprised of former members of Unida ( a [...]

Poison Sweethearts (Compound Pictures/Tempe Ent.)

Poison Sweethearts (Compound Pictures/Tempe Ent.)

Poison Sweethearts is the 4th flick from Compound Pictures that I’ve seen and as the 3 before it, I enjoyed this one as well.  The Campbell Bros. hail from the same state as myself, and naturally, their films look and feel of all things Ohio.  More so than any of the previous films do, Poison Sweethearts puts [...]

Taintlight (Low Budget Pictures/Tempe Ent.)

Taintlight (Low Budget Pictures/Tempe Ent.)

OH, Twilight…how we hate thee.  You’ve taken vampires, douched them up, and given chubby goth chicks masturbatory aid to relieve themselves to before crying themselves to sleep.  What shall your penance be for these atrocities?  Ah, yes! Perfect!  We’ll hand you over to Chris Seaver and his merry band of buffonerists to do with you what [...]

The House of the Devil (Dark Sky Films)

The House of the Devil (Dark Sky Films)

Over the past 2 to 3 years, the horror genre has seen it’s fair share of newcomers who, fortunately, have to ability and smarts to make solid genre films that tap into new territory while still keeping one foot planted firmly in their roots.  And though their roots don’t extend as far back as the [...]

Obiat-Eye Tree Pi (Small Stone Records)

Obiat-Eye Tree Pi (Small Stone Records)

It’s not often that an album is actually scary.  I know that plenty of metal bands set out to strike fear into the listener and fail miserably.  It’s doubtful that Obiat is a band that wanted to scare it’s fan, but with Eye Tree Pi they’ve achieved that in spades.  Hailing from the U.K., Obiat [...]

Gnaw (Dark Sky Films)

Gnaw (Dark Sky Films)

Texas Chainsaw Massacre is my favorite film of all time.  It’s also a film highly regarded as a classic.  Naturally with anything considered classic there are generations of film school graduates who want to make “their version” of that film.  Does this always mean good? HELL NO (Rob Zombie has spent his entire career aping [...]

Black Devil Doll (Lowest Common Denominator Entertainment)

Black Devil Doll (Lowest Common Denominator Entertainment)

It’d be a tragedy if blaxploitation hadn’t ever existed.  Had we not had all those amazing films, we wouldn’t have a reason for films like Black Devil Doll to exist.  THANK GOD this movie exists!!!!The story is as old as time: A former Black Panther/serial killer is executed for murdering white bitches but his soul [...]

Deadgirl (Dark Sky Films)

Deadgirl (Dark Sky Films)

There’s a certain amount of clout going for this movie before you even watch it.  Brought to the world from the same people that brought us Hellraiser and Heathers, written by Trent Haaga, Dark Sky Films releasing it…not bad.  Here’s the thing: It’s sort of a rape/necrophilia story.  Now, I know what you’re gonna say-”why [...]
